“Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding.”
— Proverbs 4:7

Each academic year is a new journey — but not only for your child.
It is also a journey for you, the parent.

Unfortunately, many Christian parents focus only on the visible things: school supplies, uniforms, transportation, and timetables. These are good. But in the kingdom of God, preparation begins with the invisible.

A child prepared physically, but neglected spiritually, is like a soldier wearing a helmet with no sword.

As we step into this new school season, the Spirit of God is calling us to return to our role — not only as providers but as guardians of destiny.

1. Understand the Season: Each Academic Year Is a Divine Door

According to Ecclesiastes 3:1, “ To everything there is a season, a time for every purpose under heaven.”

Each school year carries:

  • New friendships

  • New environments

  • New spiritual battles

  • New opportunities for growth

This is why prayer must begin before the school year starts.
Parents must ask God:

“Lord, what is the purpose of this year for my child? What should I watch for?”

Biblical Example:

In 1 Samuel 2, Hannah didn’t just give Samuel to the temple. She gave him to the Lord through prayer, preparation, and prophetic understanding. She understood the season her son was stepping into.

2. Rebuild the Family Altar Before the School Bell Rings

The home is the child’s first school. And the parents are the first teachers.
Before they enter the classroom, they must already be surrounded by the presence of God at home.

“These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them…” – Deuteronomy 6:6-7

To prepare spiritually:

  • Begin each day with family devotion (even 10 minutes)

  • Bless your child before they leave the house

  • Teach them how to pray, even simple prayers

  • Play worship or Scripture audio during the morning routine

Revelation: A child who starts the day with peace and prayer is spiritually ahead of the classroom.

3. Anoint the Mind Before You Buy the Backpack

It is good to buy books, but don’t forget to anoint the child.
Before they face the teacher, they must be covered by the Father.

“But the anointing which you have received from Him abides in you…” – 1 John 2:27

Take oil and pray:

  • “I anoint your head, for wisdom and understanding.”

  • “I anoint your ears, to hear the voice of the Lord.”

  • “I anoint your feet, to walk in righteousness.”

  • “I anoint your heart, to love and forgive.”

Do not underestimate this spiritual act. It is not a ritual — it is spiritual covering.

4. Teach Identity Before the World Gives Them Labels

Many children walk confidently into school but come back confused — because they are exposed to worldly ideas, comparison, and peer pressure.

“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind…” – Romans 12:2

Speak identity into your child daily:

  • “You are a child of God.”

  • “You are loved, even when others reject you.”

  • “You are not alone — God is with you.”

  • “You don’t need to fit in — you were made to stand out.”

Revelation: Children who know their identity walk with spiritual authority — even in school.

5. Prepare Physically — With Wisdom, Not Pressure

“Let all things be done decently and in order.” – 1 Corinthians 14:40

Children also need physical structure:

  • A clean and organized study space at home

  • A clear sleep routine (avoid screens before bed)

  • Nutritious food to help with focus

  • Limited access to unnecessary media

  • Regular conversation with the parents after school

Many behavioral problems are not spiritual — they come from lack of order and parental absence.

Let preparation also include:

  • Knowing your child’s teacher

  • Praying for the school staff

  • Keeping a calendar for school events

  • Being present — not only physically, but emotionally

6. Discern the Child’s Spiritual State

As a parent, don’t just check homework — check the heart.

Jesus said, “Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.” (Matthew 12:34)
Ask questions like:

  • “What made you happy today?”

  • “Was there anything that made you feel sad or uncomfortable?”

  • “Do you need help with anything — not just school, but your heart?”

Revelation: Parents must not only react. They must discern.
Pray in the Spirit. Observe changes. Ask the Holy Spirit what is happening beneath the surface.

7. Fast and Intercede for Your Child — Don’t Just Wait for Sunday School

“This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting.” – Mark 9:29

Some children are facing silent battles:

  • Fear of failure

  • Hidden bullying

  • Emotional wounds

  • Early exposure to spiritual darkness

Do not wait for signs of crisis. Be proactive.
Choose a day in the week to fast and intercede for your children.
Cover them in prayer before the enemy tries to sow confusion.

Final Encouragement to Parents

You are not just a mother or father.
You are a spiritual gatekeeper.

The Bible says:

“The righteous man walks in his integrity; his children are blessed after him.” – Proverbs 20:7

Prepare your child for school, yes — but prepare them first for life in the Spirit.
Let them go to class full of light. Let them walk into the world full of truth.
Let them be equipped — not only with books, but with the presence of God.

This year, do not just send your child back to school.
Send them back to their destiny.
